How accurate is SurfSeer?
What we can show now, what we can't show yet, and how you can check for yourself.
What we can show
We publish forecasts for three named spots the night before, and check them the next morning against fixed rules. Correct and wrong results are both kept. This is the only accuracy claim we make, because you can check it.
It is a sample of three spots, not a claim about every spot.
What we can't show yet
There is no single accuracy figure for every spot. Spots behave very differently, and an average across all of them would not describe any one of them.
Predictions for a new spot improve as sessions are logged there. The app shows how many sessions a spot's predictions are based on.
How to check for yourself
Log your sessions and record how the waves compared with the prediction. The app shows predicted and actual conditions side by side.
If predictions are consistently wrong at a spot, you will see it in your session history within a few weeks.
When predictions are less reliable
Fast-changing sandbanks, wind changes that arrive early, and swell from an unusual direction all make any forecast less reliable, including ours.
Predictions are estimates. Always check the water yourself before you go in.
